The annual Rugby NorCal Kickoff Tournament takes place this Saturday, Feb. 3, at Robertson Park (3200 Robertson Park Rd.) in Livermore, Calif. Twenty-one girls’ high school and middle school sides will fill the two turf pitches from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Pacific.  See schedule breakouts below..

Rugby versions aplenty will be on display on Saturday. Five high school clubs are playing 15s. The Danville Oaks are back from a hiatus in terms of the high school girls’ 15s, and they’re joined by Bay Area teams Pleasanton Cavaliers (“Lady Cavs”) and San Mateo Wolverines. The SacPAL Amazons and Sacramento Harlequins (formerly Land Park) represent the capital city area. All five programs have competed at high school club 15s nationals in the past.

Bishop O’Dowd (BOD) HS
Carondelet HS

Liberty HS

Lamorinda Oakland
SacPAL Amazons

There are also eight teams in the Middle School 7s division:

As the event name implies, the NorCal Kickoff Tournament is a pre-season runout. Champions won’t be named on Saturday, but all three divisions will be active throughout the spring and culminate on Saturday, May 11 in Rio Linda for the Rugby NorCal championships.

The following weekend, several NorCal teams will feature in the Girls’ High School Club 15s National Tournament, which is occurring in concert with the Single-School 15s National Tournament in Madison, Wis. The club teams play Friday-Saturday, May 17-18, and the single schools compete Saturday-Sunday, May 18-19. The Rugby Breakdown will be at all four events – KOT and Rugby NorCal finals, and the two high school nationals.
