We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during these times. We wanted to send out an update on some of the changes happening around the region. We have received an update for guidelines in both Washington and Idaho.

Washington

Many counties moved to Stage 2 as of late. Washington state also updated their sports guidelines, which in Stage 2, now generally allows full-contact practices and competition as long as all members of sporting activities wear masks at all times. You can read all the governor’s updates here: LINK.

Oregon

Still not allowing full contact sports to occur. More addressed here: LINK.

Idaho

Moved to stage 3 as of February 2. This allows gatherings up to 50 people and generally allows practices/matches to continue. This includes all participants necessary for the competition to occur. More information here: LINK.

If you have any questions on how this affects your area, please take a look at our website and look at your county: LINK.

As a reminder, for any rugby activity to be sanctioned, the following criteria must be met:

1. clubs and individuals complete necessary registration in SportLomo.2. have an approved return to play (“RTP”) plan that meets the standards of your county and the USA Rugby (USAR) RPT guidelines. You can send your plans to Mitch Castro (Mitch@pnrfu.org)

Finally, no player, and no team, should feel pressure to train or compete if they are uncomfortable with the risk, even if such training or competition is allowed under local law and USAR guidelines. The circumstances of each team and player will differ, and each team and player should make the decision that is best for them.

USAR will not be having a national championship series this year, (official announcement will be forthcoming, but you heard it here first) and we will not be running a traditional Spring competition season, but will take into consideration friendlies, tournaments, or other competition formats as long as they meet the necessary criteria under the PNRFU and USAR RTP policies.

If you have any questions about the return to play status for your club, or how to fulfill the necessary requirements for sanctioned play, please feel free to contact Mitch Castro (Mitch@PNRFU.org).

Yours in rugby,

Jill M. WilliamsonPresident, PNRFU
