  • UCSC 12, Cal Poly SLO 5. Game played in rainy and windy conditions. Site of game was War Memorial Stadium in Paso Robles, on a football field. Unfortunately soccer touch lines were too close to asphalt track on one side, cement walkway on other. So, 53 1/2 yard wide field meant many movements wide out to wings were hampered by narrow pitch. Cal Poly scored their try near to half time when UCSC was caught with several forwards not retreating 10 on a lineout with Cal Poly throwing in some 15 yards out from goal. A quick tap led to frosh Elizabeth Darth scoring. At 46 minutes, Ash Wang, UCSC wing, intercepted a pass at halfway and ran in a try. At 68 minutes, Sophie Killebrew scored a try and converted it for a 12-5 lead and eventually finished with that score. Though the first half was mostly dry, the second was played in driving rain and wind. For a 55 degree day, it felt more like 45 as another storm battered the California Central Coast.
