GLENDALE, Colo. – USA Rugby seeks to secure an additional $600,000 ahead of Rugby World Cup 2021 in September for the Women’s National Team XVs. After a fourth-place finish at Ireland 2017, players and staff need support from the rugby family to prepare at the highest level and truly position the United States for a podium finish.

USA Rugby has already committed a significant portion of its high-performance funding to the Women’s XVs program. The multi-faceted campaign is intended to secure additional investment to maximize the opportunity to win a medal in New Zealand.

The target aligns with a level of preparation that’s consistent with the demands of winning a Rugby World Cup medal. Resources are allocated directly to training camps and competitions, as well as player per diems which are raised in tandem with the XV Foundation. Athlete support forms a necessary component of the campaign to alleviate any financial burden on players who also work full-time.

Titled “All In,” the campaign is underpinned by support from all levels of the organization as the USA Rugby Board, national office and commercial partners have all committed gifts to the Women’s Eagles. The phrase itself signifies a united effort for all stakeholders of the union and its wider community to help the national team achieve their potential.

As part of the initiative, Wintergreen, Thorne and World Rugby Shop will donate the following proceeds directly to the Women’s XVs program:

  • Wintergreen – 100% of Black Friday sales
  • Thorne – 30% of all sales through November
  • World Rugby Shop – 30% of all sales from Stars vs. Stripes event merchandise

Supporters can give to the program in numerous ways including:

  • One-time monetary donations
  • Monthly recurring donations
  • Hosting events
  • Sponsoring events
  • Purchasing partner products

Director of Women’s High Performance, Emilie Bydwell said:

“We’re excited about how our core player pool has developed following the eight-week Daily Training Environment and Stars and Stripes competition in Denver. We have a strong foundation to drive forward into 2021 but it is critical for us to secure additional resources that provide added support for development, competition and player per diems.

“While our target is aggressive, it comes with clearly outlined priorities that help us allocate funds to areas that will make the greatest impact on player performance and welfare. As our athletes and coaches are dedicated to reaching the podium in New Zealand, we must all unify around the program so our Eagles have the best opportunity to bring a medal home to the United States.”
