The weekend action starts early, as the Women’s Premier League – the country’s top club competition – is contesting its championship Friday morning. The championship semifinals (read preview) and 5th place semifinals (read preview) begin at 10 a.m. Eastern, and the finals occur Sunday.

But there’s another big senior club competition occurring this weekend: Round 2 of the Gold Cup. Northeast teams Beantown and Boston travel to Chicago for games against Chicago North Shore and Minnesota Valkyries. All four games occur at Addams Park:

Saturday, Nov. 12

Sunday, Nov. 13

10:30 a.m.: MN Valkyries v Boston

In the collegiate sphere, there are four big competitions to track: NIRA (varsity) quarterfinals, DI fall quarterfinal play-ins, DII fall Round of 32, and the NSCRO (small school) Round of 16/quarterfinals.

In NIRA, #1 ranked Central Washington receives a bye. Harvard and Brown have opted out of the post-season, and the University of New England, which is a Tier 2 team, also forewent the Tier 1 playoffs. Also, Notre Dame College has aligned with the DI spring playoffs:

#2 Quinnipiac vs. #7 West Chester

#3 Army vs. #6 Norwich

#4 AIC vs. #5 Dartmouth

Four sites will host NSCRO’s regional championships this weekend, and the four victors will advance to the Dec. 3-4 semifinals/final at Life University. Check out the Round of 16 bracket here.

In high school, Michigan is contesting its 15s state championship and Grandville is heavily favored to win its third-straight title. But watch for Berkley’s Mindy McKeehan and standout freshman Emma Hamilton to make an impact. Colorado will name its 7s champion and it’ll come down to Summit and SWARM for the title. They’ve been dominating play all fall.
