PRESS RELEASE (Glendale, CO) – XV Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising funds for the USA Rugby Women’s XVs program, has today announced its first virtual fundraiser for Friday, Sept 18 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The event, titled Building the Champion Mindset, coincides with one year to go for Rugby World Cup New Zealand 2021 and features a panel of accomplished speakers from the realms of professional and international sport. Registration is $25 per person at xvf.givesmart.com with all proceeds going directly to the Women’s National Team XVs.

Headlining the event are athletes who have each reached the top echelon of their sport including two-time FIFA World Cup Champion Julie Foudy, 1998 NBA Champion Scott Burrell and 1991 Rugby World Cup Champion Maryanne Sorenson. Attendees will also hear from current Eagles with Captain Kate Zackary, Jordan Gray and Kaitlyn Broughton speaking as well.

Panel discussions are focused on achieving success in an evolving sport landscape while fundraising efforts will support the Women’s Eagles’ campaign to New Zealand 2021.

As the team looks to build on its semi final finish from 2017 — the highest result in 20 years — Head Coach Rob Cain and a new player pool need philanthropic support from the community to prepare for the highly competitive event.

Alycia Washington, Co-Founder of XV Foundation said:

“We’re incredibly excited to kick off One Year to Go with Building the Champion Mindset and to carry our fundraising momentum into the fall. The outpouring of support from all our donors has shown how passionate the rugby community is about the Women’s Eagles and we couldn’t be more thrilled to grow this network with a panel of inspiring speakers.

“As Rugby World Cup 2021 approaches, we are committed to ensuring Team USA can prepare at the highest level and build on its semifinal finish from 2017.”

Emilie Bydwell, USA Rugby’s Director of Women’s High Performance said:

“The XV Foundation has done a tremendous job in 2020 and we are so thrilled to continue our collaboration with them as we push towards another inspirational RWC performance. While COVID-19 has taken the world by storm, we’re excited about the ‘outside the box’ approach our Women’s Eagles have taken to continuously learn and improve.

“We are confident in our plan for the next 14 months and with financial support from the community, we can maximize that campaign and create a sustainable future for Women’s 15s in America.”
