Cal Poly San Luis Obispo has joined the DII West Coast Rugby Conference and is now the southernmost member of the 10-team competition. All teams play each other once, and thus the nine-round season got an early start in October. A handful of games were canceled at the end of 2018 (air quality associated with Camp Fire) and so the New Year will be busy with league matches from Jan. 12 – March 23. The top-four teams will compete in the conference semifinals on March 30, higher seed hosting, and then contest the championship and third-place games on April 6. Fresno State head coach and conference commissioner Barry Foley has also set up the league so that the bottom-six teams have the option to play for a higher place in the final standings.

Thus far, reigning champ Fresno State, St. Mary’s College and University of San Francisco are 2-0 in league play to top the standings.
