The USA Club Rugby Super Regional Championships (SRCs) will fill in completely by Sunday, April 13, as the last of the women’s 15s competitions hold their respective title bouts or standings-effecting matches. There are national championship pathways for women’s Division I and Division II, but not for Division III. Only the Atlantic SRC has a women’s DIII option. The following update is grouped by division, then alphabetically by Super Region. Want a visual recap? Check out TRB’s Instagram. [lead photo: Katherine Weinfurter]

The SRCs take place the final weekend in April (Pacific) and the first weekend in May (everyone else). All of the victors then advance to the national championship weekend (semifinals and finals) on Friday-Sunday, May 16-18 in Indianapolis, Ind.

DIVISION I

ATLANTIC

The name of the SRC is also the name of the women’s DI league on the East Coast, “Atlantic,” and it’s fitting given how one flows into the other. Teams play home and away, and then regular-season standings seed the top-four (out of five) teams into the Atlantic SRC, held in Newport, R.I., on Saturday, May 3 (semifinals) and Sunday, May 4 (finals). Undefeated NOVA (8-0) is guaranteed the top seed, but #2-4 will need the next two weeks of league games to sort themselves. No one has been statistically eliminated from playoffs, yet. Exciting!

GULF COAST

The only DI rugby in the Gulf Coast occurs in Texas, which ran a hybrid competition this year with three DI teams and three DII teams. The Red River championship occurs April 12 in Dallas between #1 Dallas Harlequins and #2 Houston (sHARC). The winner advances directly to the national semifinals in Indianapolis.

NORTHERN

The Metropolis Valkyries won the Midwest in November 2024 and that title affords a direct berth to the national semifinals on Friday, May 16 in Indianapolis, Ind.

PACIFIC

2025 marks the first year that the Pacific has fielded a complete SRC bracket for women’s DI. Two things happened: Life West declared as a DI team in NorCal, and Rocky Mountain aligned with the SRC to also accommodate a proper four-team knockout. They’ll join the champs from SoCal and Pacific Northwest (who have been competing in this quadrant since the inception of the SRC system) on Friday-Sunday, April 25-27. This SRC is a weekend earlier than the rest of the country to account for the LA 7s on May 3-4.

Last Saturday, the Utah Vipers beat Denver Black Ice 78-7 to lock up the Rocky Mountain title. The 2024 national runner-up is now fundraising for the Las Vegas trip. This Saturday, the Pacific Northwest title will be decided between #1 Seattle and #2 ORSU in Portland. When the two last met, Seattle won 14-0. This Saturday is also the SoCal semifinal — but just one. Belmont Shore had forfeited a regular-season match and thus was ineligible for playoffs. So #1 San Diego gets the bye into the April 12 SoCal championship and will face the winner of #2 Tempe vs. #3 Santa Monica. And as mentioned, Life West is the fourth team, being the only DI team in NorCal.

DIVISION II

ATLANTIC

Capital sends its top-two teams to the April 12 league final. Undefeated Severn River hosts #2 James River. The two teams played their final regular-season match against each other, and Honey Badgers bagged a 26-14 decision.

Eastern Pennsylvania (EPRU) mirrors Capital in that it sends the top-two teams to an April 12 final, with the No. 1 seed hosting. Phoenixville is guaranteed the home-field advantage at 8-0, but its opponent (either Harrisburg or Monmouth) won’t be determined until after this Saturday’s final round of regular-season play.

Both Empire and New England named their respective champions in the fall. New Haven is a four-time rep for Empire, and the Worcester Shamrocks return for their second go at SRCs after a thrilling postseason. • Also, NERFU has published the SRC schedule and the semifinal pairings are known: Capital vs. Empire, and NERFU v EPRU.

GULF COAST

The Carolinas held its semifinals last Saturday, with higher seeds hosting. Charleston won on the road, 26-7, over Atlanta 2.0 Selects, while Charlotte posted a 97-0 victory against visiting Columbia. Charleston and Charlotte now travel to Columbia, S.C., for the Carolinas final this Saturday.

The Florida state championships are Saturday, April 12 in Titusville, and the trophy will be decided between Fort Miami and Tampa Bay, the 2024 national champion. The teams split regular-season games: 40-12 to Fort Miami, then 22-17 to Tampa Bay.

The DII final between #1 Little Rock and #2 San Antonio is part of a larger Red River championship event, which occurs April 12 in Dallas, Texas. When the two finalists last saw each other in the regular season, the Arkansas team won 37-23.

The True South championships occur this weekend in Hendersonville, Tenn. The Saturday, April 5 semifinals pit Knoxville against Nashville, and Birmingham against Chattanooga. The two victors move onto Sunday’s final.

NORTHERN

The Midwest — as has been the case since the SRCs incepted — send its champion (Grand Rapids) and runner-up (Rochester) to the championship, given the competition’s size and strength. The Michigan and Upstate New York teams won their spots in November 2024.

Mid-America holds its championships on April 12-13 in Columbia, Mo. The semifinals feature St. Louis vs. KC Jazz, and Patriots vs. Omaha. Saturday’s victors advance to Sunday’s final.

Rocky Mountain decides its champ on standings. Boulder Babes are 3-0 (14 standings points) and Denver Black Ice is 2-1 (10 pts.), and they play their final regular-season match against each other this Saturday in what is essentially a league championship. With that said, the bonus-points situation could also make this finish interesting.

PACIFIC

The first of the four participants will be named this Saturday, when #1 Portland and #2 Emerald City contest the Pacific Northwest championship in Portland. Meanwhile, SoCal will hold its semifinals at the higher seeds: #4 Fullerton @ #1 West Coast Marines, and #3 Los Angeles @ #2 Pasadena. The following Saturday, April 12 is the SoCal championship, but no location has been circulated.

April 12 is the big day in the DII Southwest as well, as Phoenix travels to undefeated Las Vegas for the title match. The teams played each other home and away this year, and both were competitive games (17-0, 17-7). NorCal isn’t holding a title match but relying on standings to name its champion and rep to SRCs. Berkeley is currently 4-0 to lead the standings and has two more games to go.

DIVISION III

ATLANTIC

There is definitely DIII ball outside of the Atlantic, but no SRC as a whole has similar quantity or consistency like this quadrant of the country.

Like its DII counterparts, Empire and New England named their respective champs in the fall. The Union County Mudturtles out of New Jersey are the veterans, and Portland is making its first appearance as NERFU’s rep.

Also like its DII counterparts, Capital and EPRU will hold their respective championships on April 12 at the higher seeds’ homes. Capital features two new finalists in #1 DC Revolution and #2 Roanoke. Eastern Pennsylvania pits reigning champ North Bay against Brandywine.

Also, NERFU has published the SRC schedule and the semifinal pairings are known: Capital vs. Empire, and NERFU v EPRU.
