Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Women’s Rugby has announced the hiring of a new head coach, Dai Morgan. He takes over a program with that has multiple College Rugby Association of America (CRAA) national championships and that just completed its first Division I season in the Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference.
Morgan brings a wealth of international experience to San Luis Obispo. He currently serves as Coach Development Officer and Academy Coach at Union Sportive St. Sulpice sur Lèze Rugby club near Toulouse, France — an FFR-accredited academy with teams competing in National Division 1 and Regional competitions.
He has previously coached within elite environments, including Montpellier Hérault Rugby, Cardiff Metropolitan University, and EIRA, a USA National Age Grade pathway. Morgan holds advanced degrees in sport psychology and physical education alongside national coaching certifications from Wales, France, and the United States.
A former Director of Rugby and National Championship-winning coach in the United States, Morgan specializes in academy leadership, talent identification, and coach education — exactly the profile this program needs as it builds on a historic inaugural Division I season.
That foundation is a strong one. In their first year at the highest level of collegiate rugby, the Mustangs posted a winning record, defeated defending national champion Stanford in a thrilling comeback, earned a berth in the D1 playoffs, and finished third at the 7s National Championships. Coach Morgan inherits a program on the rise — and we are confident he is the right person to take it further.
We thank Zach Markow for everything he built here. His vision launched this program into Division I, and his fingerprints will be on this team for years to come.
