Roster Review: DC v Atlanta

The rosters for the D.C. Furies and Atlanta have posted for tomorrow’s Women’s Premier League match. The Harlequins are on the road, and while that typically stresses a roster, the changes made are pretty exciting.

The youth is getting the call-up Saturday. Virginia Tech’s Carolyn Mackey starts at hooker, and last year’s UCF co-captain Julia Phillips gets the start at lock. With Mo Compito moving to flanker, there’s some room to fill in the back line. The 9-10 combo pairs Kennesaw State senior Akilah Guzman and Penn State grad Corinne Heavner together. Lara Gartner bumps out to fullback and will be valuable experience in the back field. Centers once again feature UCF and Life grads Cortney Kuehl and Kaitlyn Broughton.

Provided everyone rostered for Saturday’s game plays, the Furies will have worked through 33 players over four matches. This weekend’s roster is two players short of a full 23, but the pack features players who at the end of tomorrow’s game will have 3-4 matches behind them. The halfbacks are WPL newcomers, Scion’s Maggie Myles and former Dayton/Columbia player Sam Moorhead. Nate Serevi and Lauran Glover make for another dynamic center pairing, and we’re big fans of Katy Stewart and reliability in the back field. Emily Fulbrook, too, is so powerful on the wing.

TRB is leaning toward Atlanta, which is coming off a confidence-boosting win over Twin Cities.
