The 2023 USA Club 7s National Championship will occur Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 12-13 at the Wisconsin Rugby Sports Complex in Cottage Grove, Wis., and the women’s competition will feature 16 teams. After many replacements and a reworking of the groupings, the pools are finally set.#

Eight teams return from the 2022 championship (*), and coincidentally, there are three returners in three of the four pools. Pool C however is all new in terms of 7s nationals. SoCal champ Camp Pendleton has combined with some Rhinos players and take the top seed in the pool. Slaughterhouse is an Eastern Pennsylvania select side that competed in a Mid-Atlantic 7s series with six teams. The club finished behind two-time reigning national champion Scion [8.10 withdrawal statement] and ahead of NOVA. Texas’ HEB Hurricanes won the Red River and will debut at nationals. The Oregon Sharks are also new and feature recognizable Portland-area-based players as well as out-of-staters like KB Broughton, Saher Hamdan and Tiana-Malia Kawaihoa-Marquez.

Other newcomers include Cincinnati, Little Rock and Dallas Reds, all of which joined the lineup as replacement teams. Notably, Chicago North Shore is the only WPL club that has sent a team to 7s nationals, which overlaps with the WPL’s fall opening weekend.
